HMRC might request to carry out a VAT inspection based on a random selection or specific selection in view of exceptional events. In either case, it is always advisable that a VAT specialist attends to deal with any technical questions by the VAT inspector and to ensure that any unwarranted VAT assessments are avoided. We have attended numerous VAT inspections and have built up good working relationships with many VAT inspectors.

In our experience, it is more likely that HMRC would reach a more favourable agreement with our clients if we are asked to negotiate on our clients behalf.
